Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, the Great Wall of China was built in stages as early as the 7th century BC and was intended to fortify the Chinese empire against external invasions. Today, the Great Wall is believed to stretch over 13,000 miles, and remains one of the world’s most popular tourist attractions.

Beijing National Stadium: Built in 2007 to host the 2008 Summer Olympics, the Beijing National Stadium is located at the Olympic Green, and was the venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2008 Games, among other events. The National Stadium was designed by the Swiss architecture firm, Herzog & de Meuron, under consultation with the renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, and is designed to resemble a bird’s nest.

CCTV Headquarters: Located in the Central Business District of Beijing, the CCTV Headquarters stands over 750 feet tall and serves as the headquarters for the national broadcaster, China Central Television, or CCTV. Completed in 2012, the building is known for its distinctive loop shape, and is in fact a connection of three separate buildings. The CCTV Headquarters was the recipient of the 2013 Best Tall Building Worldwide award, and was designed by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture.

  • Zhangjiakou Ningyuan Airport (ZQZ): This is another public/military use airport located in the Hebei Province, China. It was built in June 2013 and it currently features one runway. Its facilities can accommodate 200,000 passengers every year.
  • Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport (SJW): This airport mainly serves the Hebei province in China and it features one concrete runway. In 2013, it was used by approximately five million passengers.
  • Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport (TNA): This airport serves the city of Jinan and it is located nearly 21 miles from its city center. In 2013, it was used by approximately 8.1 million passengers.
  • Taiyuan Wusu International Airport (TYN): This airport serves the city of Taiyuan and it was built back in 1939. It currently features one concrete runway.
