A total of twenty-seven islands have participated in the Island Games. The eleven islands which have participated in every Island Games since the first in 1985 are: Åland (Finland), Faroe Islands (Denmark), Frøya (Norway), Gotland (Sweden), Guernsey (UK), Isle of Man (UK), Isle of Wight (England), Jersey (UK), Orkney Islands (Scotland), Shetland Islands (Scotland), Ynys Môn (Wales)

The most recent games were the 2017 Island Games held in Gotland, with around 3000 competitors from 23 competing islands competing in 14 sports.
