Located behind the Palazzo Pitti, the Boboli Gardens offer a lush landscape to explore that includes an Egyptian Obelisk, an amphitheatre, Neptune’s Fountain, Giambologna’s Abundance statue, a large pond, Isolotto, featuring a fountain by Giambologna called Ocean, and various sculptures, including three representing the Nile, Gange, and Euphrates rivers. Also in the garden is the Grotta Grande which is stunningly decorated on the inside and out with stalactites and Mannerist sculptures.

The Duomo

The red dome from the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore is made with brick and mortar and is the largest of its kind in the world. It is likely to be the first sights you see on your approach flight into Florence. Construction on the Gothic Cathedral began near the end of the 13th Century. The Dome was added much later, during the 15th Century. At that time, the façade of the church was only partially complete. It remained that way until the 19th Century when the entire exterior was redone to represent the styles of the time.
